Wisdom of the Wise: George Herbert
Love bade me welcome:
yet my soul drew back,
Guilty of dust and sin.
But quick-eyed Love,
observing me grow slack
From my first entrance in,
Drew nearer to me,
sweetly questioning,
If I lacked anything.

But quick-eyed Love,

From my first entrance in,
Drew nearer to me,
sweetly questioning,
If I lacked anything.

what an awesome quote!!
I was introduced to George Herbert last year on a theology course and really enjoyed his writings. They can be a little difficult due to the 17th century English, but well worth the effort.
He composed many poems, but also wrote "A Priest to his Temple or, the Country Parson, his Character, and Rule of Holy Life" to "set down the form and character of a true pastor, that I may have a mark to aim at". It is wonderful reading for any of us, even if we are not pastors.
